The coming Festival, devoted to the
contemporary electronic music culture of Europe and Russia, will be a
large-scale event, connected with the entire history of the Russian
synthpop/ebm/gothic music scene. In the early 1990s, on the wave of
the universal success and recognition afforded such Western groups as
A-HA, ALPHAVILLE, CAMOUFLAGE, KRAFTWERK, THE CURE, ERASURE and DEPECHE
MODE synthpop was recognized in Russia as one of the most promising
genres of musical culture. Just recall the incredible success in the
early 1990s of such groups as TECHNOLOGIA, ARRIVAL and BIO. The lull
that followed in the late 90s is now being replaced by a truly huge
new wave of interest in this type of music. Electronic groups occupy
top places not just in the European alternative music charts, but also
in the national charts; licensed audio recordings are being produced
in Russia, and a growing audience, not only in Moscow, but throughout
the country, is demanding live performances by such. 2004 promises to
consolidate the position of this musical subculture, which is gaining
more and more impetus.
During the «May Thunder" festival, the
Moscow audience will be presented with a very interesting range of
music that is diverse not only geographically, but also musically, as
electronic music has, of course, many facets.
